Let’s look at some SECOND function examples and explore how to use the SECOND function.

For example:

mysql> SELECT SECOND('2014-01-28 15:21:05');

mysql> SELECT SECOND('12:13:06');
Result: 6

mysql> SELECT SECOND('838:11:59');

This last SECOND example would display the second portion of the current system time (current system time is returned by the CURTIME function).
